There’s just something about summer that makes going to the movies feel a little more special. Maybe it’s the air conditioning after a hot day or maybe it’s just that so many exciting movies seem to come out this time of year. Either way, I’ve been making it a point to get back into the theater more often, and I’ve already found a few favorites.
Michael Was Everything I Hoped It Would Be
Out of everything I’ve seen this summer, Michael has easily been my favorite.
As someone who grew up listening to Michael Jackson, this movie felt like such a trip down memory lane. I found myself smiling through so many scenes because the music instantly took me back to my childhood. It reminded me of family gatherings where Michael Jackson was always playing, trying to learn his dance moves in the living room, and hearing his songs everywhere on the radio.
The soundtrack alone is worth seeing the movie for.
There were so many iconic songs featured throughout the film that I couldn’t help but sing along in my head. It’s one of those movies that leaves you wanting to go home and make a playlist of all your favorite Michael Jackson hits.
I also appreciated how the film celebrated his incredible impact on music and pop culture. Whether you’ve been a lifelong fan or you’re just discovering his music, it’s hard to deny the influence he had on generations of artists.
When the credits started rolling, I realized I didn’t want the movie to end. Those are usually the films that stick with me the longest.
The Movie I’m Most Excited to See Next
The next movie on my list is Masters of the Universe.
If you grew up in the ’80s like I did, you probably understand why I’m so excited.
Back then, He-Man and She-Ra were everywhere. I remember watching the cartoons, seeing the toys in every store, and pretending to be part of Eternia’s adventures. It was such a huge part of growing up that it’s impossible not to feel a little nostalgic whenever I hear the words “By the Power of Grayskull!”
I’m really hoping the new movie captures that same sense of adventure while giving the story a modern update. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, but I also love seeing classic characters introduced to a whole new generation.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or someone who’s never seen the original cartoons, I think movies like this are a fun reminder that some stories really do stand the test of time.
Why I Love Summer Movie Season
One thing I’ve noticed this year is that so many movies are leaning into nostalgia. Instead of constantly introducing brand-new characters, studios are bringing back the franchises many of us grew up with.
Honestly, I’m not mad about it.
There’s something comforting about seeing familiar stories, hearing music you grew up with, or reconnecting with characters that were a big part of your childhood. It feels like Hollywood has finally realized that people enjoy a little nostalgia mixed with something fresh.
For me, movies aren’t just about entertainment. They’re about memories. Sometimes one song or one scene can instantly transport you back to a specific moment in your life, and I think that’s what made Michael so special for me.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a movie to watch this summer, I definitely recommend checking out Michael. Between the music, the performances, and all the nostalgic moments, it was one of those films that stayed with me long after I left the theater.
And as for Masters of the Universe, I already know I’ll be grabbing my popcorn and heading to the theater as soon as it’s released. Some childhood favorites never lose their magic, and I’m excited to see He-Man and the gang back on the big screen.
What have you seen this summer? I’d love to hear what movies you’ve been loving—or what you’re planning to see next!
