I have one son.
ONE.
And while I absolutely love being a boy mom, there’s one thing I don’t get to do very often.
Shop for GIRLY things.
I’m talking makeup, perfume, cute purses, hair products, nail polish, and all the fun little beauty gifts that make my heart happy.
Thankfully, I have three nieces.
And every Christmas, shopping for them is basically my Super Bowl. π
My nieces are currently 10, 13, and 18, which means I’m shopping for three VERY different ages, personalities, and interests.
One loves crafts and getting her nails painted. One is absolutely obsessed with all things beauty but isn’t quite allowed to wear makeup yet. And the oldest is a practical, studious girl who loves sports but also appreciates a little luxury.
So buying Christmas gifts for them isn’t as simple as picking up three matching gift sets and calling it a day.
And honestly?
That’s what makes it so much fun.
I thought I’d share what I actually bought my tween and teen nieces for Christmas last year, how those gifts went over, and a few things I’m considering for them this Christmas.
Because if you’re shopping for girls between the ages of 10 and 18, you already know how tricky it can be to find gifts that feel special without going completely overboard.
My Christmas Gift-Giving Philosophy: Little Luxuries Without Going Overboard
Here’s the thing about me.
I LOVE luxury beauty products.
I love beautiful packaging, fancy fragrances, and the kinds of little treats you might not necessarily buy for yourself.
And when it comes to giving gifts, I love making people feel special.
But I also try to be mindful of something important when shopping for my nieces.
I don’t want my gifts to overshadow what their parents are giving them.
Their parents and I don’t necessarily have the same Christmas shopping budgets, and the last thing I want is to make anyone feel uncomfortable or like they need to compete.
I’m the aunt.
I’m not Santa Claus.
Even if I occasionally need to remind myself of that while shopping. π
Last year, I tried to keep my spending somewhere between $50 and $100 per girl.
And let me tell you, that was harder than I expected.
Not because I couldn’t find anything in that price range, but because I kept finding MORE things I wanted to buy.
So I tried to focus on a few thoughtful gifts that suited each girl’s personality rather than buying something expensive just for the sake of it.
I also love putting together little mini gift baskets.
Not necessarily actual baskets, but a collection of two or three smaller things that work together.
A cute accessory, a beauty product, maybe something fun or creative.
Of course, I’m not opposed to buying one really beautiful gift instead.
It just depends on the girl and what I find.
Christmas Gift Ideas for 10-Year-Old Girls: Cute, Creative, and a Little Girly
My youngest niece is currently 10, and she’s such a fun age to shop for.
She’s crafty, loves getting her nails painted, and enjoys cute, girly things.
But she’s not allowed to wear makeup yet.
And I completely respect that.
I don’t think you have to buy makeup for a girl just because she likes beauty-related things.
There are SO many other fun options.
What I Bought Her Last Christmas
Mimi & Lula Scatter Hearts Velvet Bag
Last year, I found the most adorable little velvet purse at Nordstrom.
It was the Mimi & Lula Scatter Hearts Velvet Bag, and it had these cute little hearts all over it.
It felt like the perfect combination of sweet and stylish.
A little purse that was special enough to feel like a big-girl accessory without being too grown-up.

Glimmer Wish Unicorn Bath and Hair Products
I also got her some unicorn-themed bath and hair products from Glimmer Wish.
I picked out the shampoo, body wash, and matching unicorn detangling brush.
And honestly, SUCH a good gift idea for girls that age.
They’re fun, colorful, and feel like a special little pampering collection without being actual makeup.
Plus, I loved that the products worked together as a little gift set.

And her reaction?
SQUEALS.
Actual squeals of excitement.
Which is pretty much the best thing you can hear when someone opens a gift you picked out for them.
What I’m Considering for Her This Christmas
This year, I’m thinking about leaning into her creative side a little more.
Nail Art Supplies
Since she loves getting her nails painted, I think a fun nail art collection would be adorable.
I’m looking at things like nail art pens, stickers, and age-appropriate polish that she can use with an adult.
I especially like the idea of peel-off or traditional children’s nail polish rather than a gel manicure system.
Design-Your-Own Pen Set
I’ve also been considering one of those fun design-your-own pen sets from Costco.
I think she’d really enjoy something creative that she can actually use afterward.
And I love pairing something crafty with a little beauty gift.
I’m still deciding exactly what I’m going to get her, but I think that combination could be really cute.
Christmas Gift Ideas for 13-Year-Old Girls: Beauty Gifts Without a Full Makeup Routine
Now, my 13-year-old niece?
This girl LOVES beauty.
All of it.
Hair products, body sprays, makeup, the whole thing.
If she had her way, I suspect she’d happily spend an afternoon browsing every aisle at Ulta. π
But her parents have rules about makeup, and until recently, she really wasn’t allowed to wear much of anything.
So I’ve tried to find gifts that let her enjoy the beauty world without giving her things she isn’t allowed to use.
And there’s another little detail I keep in mind.
They don’t have a bathtub at home.
So while bath bombs and fancy bubble baths might look like cute gifts, they wouldn’t be especially useful for her.
Instead, I look for things like body sprays, shower products, and haircare.
What I Bought Her Last Christmas
Sol de Janeiro Body Spray Gift Set
Last year, I got her a Sol de Janeiro body spray gift set.
And this was SUCH a fun gift.
I love that body sprays let younger teens experiment with different scents without needing a whole makeup routine.
They’re also something she can use every day.

Amika Haircare Gift Set
I also picked up an Amika haircare gift set.
I thought this was a great way to give her something from a fun, recognizable beauty brand that she could actually use.
And let’s be honest, Amika packaging is adorable.
Wicked Owala Water Bottle
And because I didn’t want everything to be beauty-related, I also got her a Wicked-themed Owala water bottle.
It was such a fun addition to her gifts.
Cute, useful, and something that felt very her.
And just like her younger cousin, she was SO excited when she opened her gifts.
More squeals.
I was feeling pretty good about my Christmas shopping skills at that point. π
What I’m Considering for Her This Christmas
Her First Makeup Highlighter
This year, things have changed a little.
She’s finally been given permission to experiment with a small amount of makeup, including highlighter.
And I think that’s such a fun milestone.
I’m considering getting her a pretty, subtle highlighter from a nice beauty brand.
Nothing overly dramatic.
Just something that feels special and lets her experiment a little while still respecting her parents’ rules.

An Instant Camera
I’m also considering a Polaroid-style instant camera.
I think that could be such a fun gift for a 13-year-old.
Something she can use with friends, take pictures, and make memories.
And I like that it’s not another beauty product.

I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I’m leaning toward a combination of something beauty-related and something fun that she can enjoy outside of her beauty interests.
Christmas Gift Ideas for 18-Year-Old Girls: Thoughtful Little Luxuries
My oldest niece is 18, and she’s a completely different personality from the younger two.
She’s studious, loves sports, and is starting to think seriously about college and eventually moving out.
Which is exciting.
And also a little nerve-racking for her.
She’s always been pretty practical, and she isn’t someone who wears a ton of makeup.
But she does enjoy getting her nails done, doing her hair for special occasions, and feeling pretty.
And I think that’s an important distinction.
Not every 18-year-old wants an enormous makeup collection.
Sometimes the best beauty gifts are things that make someone feel special without requiring them to change their everyday routine.
For her 18th birthday in September, I actually gave her a beautiful luxury purse.
Her first real big-girl purse.
And I loved being able to give her something special for such a big birthday.
But for Christmas, I wanted to do something a little different.
What I Bought Her Last Christmas
Salt & Stone Fragrance
Last year, I got her a Salt & Stone fragrance.
I love giving fragrance as a gift because it feels like such a little luxury.
It’s something personal, pretty, and a bit indulgent without necessarily being extravagant.
Personalized Makeup Bag
I also found a cute makeup bag with her initial on it.
I love personalized gifts like this.
They’re useful, but that little extra detail makes them feel more thoughtful.
And even if someone doesn’t wear much makeup, a pretty bag can hold hair accessories, skincare, or other little essentials.

Holiday Manicure Set
Since she enjoys doing her nails, I also got her a fun holiday manicure set.
It was a nice little addition to the other gifts.
Something festive that she could enjoy without needing a trip to the salon.

And because I can’t resist adding one more beauty treat, I included a peppermint Laneige lip mask.
I love gifts like this because they feel luxurious but are still useful.
And the holiday scent made it feel extra festive.
Now, my oldest niece isn’t the type to squeal and jump up and down when she opens a gift.
She’s much more reserved.
But afterward, she sent me the sweetest message thanking me for the thoughtful gifts.
And honestly?
That meant just as much to me as the squeals from the younger girls.
What I’m Considering for Her This Christmas
I’m still figuring this one out.
Part of me wants to give her something that feels special as she gets ready for this next chapter of her life.
But I don’t necessarily want to give her something practical for college.
She’s practical enough already.
And I also don’t want to go completely overboard with something extravagant.
So right now, I’m leaning toward a nice hair styling tool.
A Quality Curling Iron or Hair Styler
Since she enjoys doing her hair for special occasions, I think a beautiful curling iron or styling tool could be the perfect gift.
Something she might not necessarily splurge on herself.
Something she’ll actually use.
And something that feels like a little luxury without being too much.
Shop Hair Styling Tools on Amazon
I’ve also considered a beautiful perfume or maybe a spa experience.
But I’m not committing to anything just yet.
Sometimes I find the best gifts when I’m not specifically looking for them.
Why I Love Making Mini Christmas Gift Baskets
One thing I’ve learned from shopping for my nieces is that I really enjoy putting together a few smaller gifts that complement each other.
There’s just something fun about creating a little collection that’s specific to the person receiving it.
For my youngest niece, that might mean a cute accessory paired with something crafty.
For my 13-year-old niece, it might be a body spray, hair product, and something fun that isn’t beauty-related.
And for my oldest niece, it might be a beautiful fragrance with a couple of smaller pampering gifts.
I don’t necessarily use an actual basket every time.
Sometimes I just wrap everything individually.
But I like the idea of giving a few little surprises instead of one generic gift set.
And I think it’s a great approach if you’re trying to shop within a particular budget.
You can choose one main item and add one or two smaller things that make the gift feel more personal.
Of course, if I find one really beautiful gift that I think a niece will love, I’m perfectly happy to go that route instead.
There are no hard rules here.
How I Try to Stay Within My Christmas Gift Budget
I mentioned earlier that last year I tried to spend somewhere between $50 and $100 on each niece.
And I really did TRY. π
But when you’re someone who loves giving gifts, it’s so easy to get carried away.
Especially when you start finding little extras.
A lip mask here.
A cute hair accessory there.
A fun gift set you weren’t planning to buy.
And suddenly, your carefully planned budget has disappeared.
So here’s what I’m trying to be more intentional about when shopping for them.
Travel-Size Beauty Products Are My Secret Weapon
One thing I did quite a bit last Christmas was buy travel-size and mini beauty products.
And honestly? BEST IDEA EVER.
I love luxury beauty brands, and I love being able to introduce my nieces to some of those products. But buying full-size versions of everything gets expensive FAST.
Plus, I didn’t want to show up with enormous, extravagant gifts that might overshadow what their parents were giving them.
So instead, I looked for smaller sizes, mini gift sets, and travel-size versions of products I thought they’d enjoy.
Things like body sprays, haircare products, and little beauty treats.
They’re still from brands the girls get excited about, but they’re more affordable and feel like a special treat rather than a huge splurge.
And I actually think the smaller sizes are perfect for tweens and teens.
They get to try something new without committing to a full-size product, and I can put together a few different things that feel thoughtfully chosen.
It’s also a great way to create those little mini gift baskets I love so much without spending a fortune.
Sometimes a few small luxuries feel just as special as one big expensive gift.
And judging by the squeals last Christmas, I’d say the strategy worked. π
I Think About Their Personalities First
Just because something is trending doesn’t mean it’s the right gift for every girl.
My 13-year-old might LOVE a new beauty product.
My youngest niece might have much more fun with a craft kit.
And my oldest might appreciate something she can use when she’s getting ready for a special occasion.
I try to think about what each girl actually enjoys rather than buying something simply because it’s popular.
I Respect Their Parents’ Rules
This is especially important with beauty gifts.
If a niece isn’t allowed to wear makeup, I’m not going to be the aunt who shows up with an entire makeup collection.
There are plenty of fun alternatives.
Body sprays, haircare, accessories, nail gifts that are appropriate for their age, and creative activities can all feel special.
And I think it’s important to respect the boundaries their parents have set.
I Don’t Want to Outshine Their Parents’ Gifts
This is probably the hardest part for me.
Not because I’m trying to compete.
Quite the opposite.
I know that our Christmas budgets aren’t necessarily the same, and I never want my gifts to become the biggest or most extravagant part of their holiday.
I want to be the fun aunt who gives thoughtful presents.
Not the aunt who accidentally turns Christmas into a competition.
So I try to find that balance between giving something beautiful and remembering that sometimes less really is more.
I Look for Little Luxuries
I think this is my favorite trick.
You don’t always have to buy the biggest gift set or the most expensive product.
Sometimes a beautiful lip mask, a nice hair product, or a cute accessory from a brand they love feels incredibly special.
And those little luxuries are often easier to work into a gift budget.

And because my three nieces have such different personalities, I’ve included a mix of beauty, creative, and lifestyle gift ideas.

Why Shopping for My Nieces Is One of My Favorite Christmas Traditions
I know Christmas isn’t about how much money you spend.
And I never want my nieces to feel like the value of a gift is measured by its price tag.
But I do love the process of finding something that feels just right for each of them.
Something that shows I pay attention to what they like.
Something they might not necessarily buy for themselves.
And something that makes them feel special.
Last Christmas, the younger two squealed when they opened their gifts.
My oldest sent me the sweetest thank-you message afterward.
Three different girls.
Three different personalities.
Three completely different ways of showing their excitement and appreciation.
And I loved every minute of it.
Being a boy mom means I don’t get a lot of opportunities to shop for girly things.
So yes, I probably get a little TOO excited when it’s time to shop for my nieces.
But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And now I just have to figure out what I’m actually buying them this year.
Wish me luck staying within my budget. π
Do you have tween or teen girls on your Christmas shopping list? I’d love to know what gifts have been a hit in your family, especially for girls who are just starting to get interested in beauty!
