I’m 45, my skin is oily, and while I still love makeup, I’ve found that I no longer want heavy, full-coverage foundations every single day.

Over the past few years I’ve tested quite a few foundations, skin tints, and tinted moisturizers trying to find what actually works for my skin.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
For a long time this was my everyday favorite.
It gave my skin a beautiful finish without looking overly made up, and I loved how natural it looked.
But something changed over time.
Eventually it started feeling heavier on my skin.
I also found that I almost always needed to set it with powder, especially because my skin tends to be oily.
It’s still a good product, but for the price, I found myself wanting something lighter.
Would I repurchase?
Maybe—but it wouldn’t be my first choice anymore.
Obagi Tinted Sunscreen
This one completely surprised me.
Technically it isn’t foundation at all.
It’s a tinted sunscreen.
I still use it regularly because I love the finish.
It gives just enough coverage to even out my skin while protecting it from the sun, which is something I never skip.
The only downside?
If I’m wearing blush or bronzer, I still like to use a setting powder because my skin gets oily throughout the day.
On days when I’m running errands or don’t want much makeup, this is still one of my favorites.
Dior Forever Skin Glow
When I want my makeup to look flawless…
This is the one.
It’s easily my favorite foundation for weddings, holidays, date nights, or any special occasion.
The finish is beautiful.
My skin looks healthy and radiant without looking greasy.
One of my favorite things is that I don’t need to set it with powder.
It wears beautifully on my skin all day.
The only reason it isn’t my everyday choice is because it still feels like foundation.
Sometimes I just don’t want that much makeup.
MAC Studio Fix Fluid
I really wanted to love this one.
Unfortunately…
It just wasn’t for me.
On my skin it felt heavy.
As the day went on I noticed it looking patchy, especially around areas where my skin has changed with age.
Everyone’s skin is different, but on my mature skin it simply didn’t give me the finish I was hoping for.
IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream
This was another disappointment for me.
The finish actually looked nice…
But every single time I used it, my skin broke out.
I gave it multiple chances because so many people love it.
Eventually I realized my skin simply didn’t agree with the formula.
No matter how nice the coverage looked, it wasn’t worth dealing with the breakouts.
The Product That Changed Everything: Typology Skin Tint
Then I found Typology.
Honestly…
I wasn’t even looking for another foundation.
What caught my attention was the fact that it was marketed more as skincare than makeup.
That appealed to me because I was starting to realize I didn’t actually want heavy foundation every day.

The only downside?
It doesn’t contain SPF.
So I apply sunscreen underneath.
For me, that’s a small trade-off considering how much I love the finish.
A little product goes a long way, and one bottle lasts much longer than I expected.
Today, this is the complexion product I reach for almost every single morning.
My Final Thoughts
After trying luxury foundations, tinted moisturizers, skin tints, and sunscreen, I’ve realized something important.
As I’ve gotten older…
I don’t actually want more coverage.
I want better-looking skin.
For everyday wear, nothing has impressed me more than Typology.
For special occasions, Dior Forever Skin Glow is still my favorite.
And for minimal makeup days, Obagi Tinted Sunscreen is always within reach.
At the end of the day, the best foundation for mature skin isn’t necessarily the most expensive one or the one everyone else is talking about.
It’s the one that makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
